The Mission Behind OwnPay
Every year, billions of dollars are taken from small businesses in the form of transaction fees by hosted payment providers. OwnPay was founded by Fattain Naime to change that.
We believe payment systems should be treated as utility infrastructure - owned, controlled, and managed by the merchant, not rented indefinitely from a central provider. Most payment platforms make you a tenant on their servers—your data, your customers, and your money flow through a third party. OwnPay flips that: you run it on your own server, own every record, and answer to no middleman.

A secure accounting engine built with PHP `bcmath` precision. Every transaction is balanced in a double-entry ledger, preventing financial leaks and ensuring GAAP compliance out-of-the-box.
Android SMS Pairing Gateway
Pair physical mobile devices via secure JWT to sync and match incoming payment SMS notifications locally. Perfect for Mobile Financial Services (MFS) like bKash, Nagad, and Rocket without relying on expensive SMS aggregators.
Sandboxed Plugins & Hooks
A WordPress-style plugin system that isolates gateway adapters and addon scripts. Customize checkout styles, build custom integrations, or load community plugins without risking core system instability.

The Foundation is Live
A complete self-hostable payment gateway platform: multi-brand visual and data isolation, 120+ pre-built payment gateway plugins, Hosted Checkout, Payment Links, Invoices, double-entry ledger bookkeeping (bcmath), white-label custom domain checkout, sandboxed plugin loader, and mobile app SMS matching gateway.
Beta Verification Loop
Gathering real-world feedback from self-hosters to triage edge cases. Launched the public live demo site at demo.ownpay.org, expanding our developers documentation reference and deploying beginner guides at learn.ownpay.org.
Marketplace & Scripted Deployment
Preparing for the official 1.0 stable release. Launching the plugin marketplace (plugin.ownpay.org) for automated addon discovery, scripted VPS container configuration scripts, expanded webhooks catalog, and custom developer SDKs.
Extended Ecosystem & Governance
Supporting third-party plugin publishing and monetization inside the ecosystem. Extending MFS integrations for additional regional wallets, adding automated fraud/risk rule builders, and transitioning to a fully distributed governance model.
Open Source Philosophy
OwnPay is distributed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0). The source code is public, the development process is open, and contributions are welcome from anyone. We believe complete transparency is the only acceptable baseline when money is involved.
